Songwriting and Music Publishing

From a very young age, I dreamed of being a songwriter. As a teenager, I listened to a lot of Elton John and was constantly intrigued by Bernie Taupin’s amazing lyrical talent. I grew up and became a professional writer – but did not pursue songwriting (until later) – however, I was subliminally influenced by my grandfather, Frank “Frankie” Parrish. Frankie Parrish was a tenor vocalist, guitarist and songwriter in many of the Big Bands during the 1930 and 40s and recorded on the Brunswick and RCA Victor labels.

He performed with the Charlie Davis Orchestra, Buddy Rogers’ Orchestra, Abe Lyman and His Californians, Jimmy Grier’s Cocoanut Grove Orchestra, the Madrigueras Orchestra, Emery Deutsch Orchestra, Xavier Cugat, Joe Rines and other popular acts. In the 1950s he had his own radio show on WIRE in Indianapolis. While I unfortunately never knew him (he died before I was born), I feel grateful to have inherited a piece of his beautiful passion for music.

In recent years while sifting through volumes of family history working on a biography about his life and his music, I decided it was time to turn my writing abilities into a long overdue songwriting dream. I bought a guitar, started playing, songwriting and reacquainting myself with the 10 years of piano I took as a young girl. It gives me endless joy to create something tangible from a simple pen and piece of paper that transforms into beautiful sounds that touch my soul. When I share my music with others and they think I am writing about them personally, it inspires me to keep writing more.
